OLS Church

The Nocturnal Adoration Society conducts Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 7:00 PM in the church. A Holy Hour will begin at 8:00 PM and conclude with benediction.  All are invited to spend time before the Blessed Sacrament.

September 6, 2017

Today is the first day of school. Students in Grades 1 to 8 are to be in school at 8:15 AM.  Parents whose children attend Nursery, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten are to follow the directions received in the August letter sent to the home.  Also, all parents are asked to refer to the school website (olscafp.org) for more information.  We ask everyone’s prayers for a successful school year!

Today at Mass everyone will have the opportunity to sign-up for “ARISE: Together in Christ” and take part in a special evangelization effort to growing in their faith and sharing it with others.

At the 9:30 AM Mass there will be a commissioning ceremony for all our catechists who dedicate themselves to sharing the faith with our children Sunday after Sunday and with our adults in the RCIA process.  This year’s theme for Catechetical Sunday is “Living As Missionary Disciples.” Support our parish catechists with your prayers as they share their faith in Jesus with us this year.

A special registration takes place today after all the Masses in the Gathering Space. If your child is entering the program for the first time, please bring the child’s original Baptismal Certificate with you. Faith Formation classes begin on Sunday, September 17th at 10:30 AM and there will be a Parents’ Meeting at 10:40 AM in the White Room.

The St. Vincent dePaul truck will be in front of the school gymnasium from 9:00 AM to 12 Noon to receive clothing items, clean and in good shape, to help those less fortunate.  We kindly ask you to bring the clothing on that day only and the St. Vincent dePaul Society in the parish thanks you for your donations.

At the 9:30 AM Mass school children are invited to bring to church their school backpacks filled with their school supplies and a special blessing will be given to them and others so that the school year will be successful and the young minds of our school children will continue to expand in learning new things.

An information meeting will take this evening at 7:00 PM and parents are encouraged to invite their children in grades 4 to 8 to become altar servers in the parish and serve gladly at the Lord’s altar.  For more details please call Mrs. Moreno at 718-347-3511.

A special collection takes place today to provide monies to those devastated in Texas and neighboring Louisiana due to Hurricane Harvey.  Thank you in advance for your generosity and let us continue to pray for those communities and individuals greatly affected by this natural disaster.

The Fil-Am Community sponsors an “On Eagle’s Wings” concert at 3:00 PM featuring the Voice of Friendship Singers with Mr. Eric Joyner on the piano and the baritone voice of Mr. Marvin Gayatgay.  Tickets are $20.00 in advance and $25.00 at the church doors.  Tickets will be available in the Gathering Space after Mass the weekend of September 16th/17th.

At the 12:30 PM Mass all are invited to commemorate this courageous and holy man who became the first saint from the Philippines.  We will pray through his intercession for the fortitude to bear witness to Christ in all circumstances.  Following the Mass a delicious lunch and festive program will take place in the White Room.  All are welcomed.

Litchfield Grotto

The Spirituality Committee sponsors a one day pilgrimage to the Lourdes of Litchfield Grotto in Connecticut. There will be time for prayer and reflection including the Stations of the Cross, Marian Prayer, celebration of Mass and much more.  You can bring your own lunch or purchase some food items in the Grotto Café.  The cost is $40.00 per person and blue registration forms are on the tables in the Gathering Space.  Registration deadline is Saturday, September 9th.
