The Human Concerns Center of Our Lady of the Snows is made up of parish volunteers serving the needy in the local community. The Human Concerns Center office hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 12 Noon. Messages can be left after hours and on the weekend and will be returned as soon as possible.

The following is a list of some of the ministries of the Human Concerns Center. If you would like to volunteer for any of these activities, call the H.C.C.

Food Pantry

The 1st Sunday of each month is “Food Pantry Sunday.” Non-perishable food items can be placed in the bin at the left alcove of the Church’s main entrance. Donations are also accepted at the H.C.C. during office hours. Emergency food is distributed as needed. We also provide holiday baskets to the needy at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Pastoral Care Respite Program

Certified aides minister to the frail elderly and infirm of the parish. They do personal care, light housekeeping, laundry and whatever is reasonably necessary to assist the at-home patient. Pastoral Care Respite aides work a minimum of 3 hours a day. They earn $15.00 an hour and are paid daily.

Bereavement

Spiritual and emotional support is offered to those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. We have an ongoing monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of the month at 9:30 A.M. in the Parish Meeting Room. Evening bereavement sessions are held in the spring and fall. Kindly refer to the Church Bulletin for the schedule. Parish volunteers also assist at Funeral Masses and attend to the needs of the family.

Throughout the year, volunteers serve in a variety of miscellaneous activities: the Anointing of the Sick Mass, the Advent Giving Tree, the preparation and distribution of items to the needy homebound and elderly, and those in nursing homes, and the packing and delivery of food to local Church pantries.
